i’m interrupting this special madrid diary installment to give kudos where its due: in this case, its vanity fair this month for publishing a totally awe-inspiring article on john hughes that i read almost three days ago and i’m still thinking constantly about it. the entire way this story has been composed is really brilliant and of course it only strengthens the learning experience when the subject is someone as incredibly talented as the ever-visionary, john hughes. definitely a must-read. check it HERE

magic angle-moment…
i love it when i haphazardly snap a shot in a foreign city and its not until later when i’m sussing it out on my computer i realize the inclusion of some special details. case in point: i actually didn’t even notice the JOY sign when i took this photo earlier today but seeing it now can only be an indication of the right frame at the right time.

travel notes: L.A to chicago transfer at 8am. chicago airport vibe is like an ad for jason reitman’s film ‘up in the air’ with the film’s campaign imagery lighting up the endless gateways and exact silhouette renditions of the three characters in effect.
suitcases on wheels might be practical but they look lame. watched michael jackson’s ‘this is it’ in business class on iberia and practiced my ‘gracias’ accent with the steward. upon arriving in madrid i sensed i loved it instantly. amazing architecture and grey weather. am heading out with a woman (an aries) i met on the plane. we’re going to a literary bar my mate lainie in melbourne recommended to me last week. tonight is an opening party at the famous museo reina sofia. leopard print may be in order. playlist: talking heads, bernard herrman, elvis presley, kate bush and mu. more later…
