rest in peace albert maysles…

It was a sad day on Thursday for me, a contrast from the triumphant success of the enSoie event (more on that later) as news broke that pioneering documentarian Albert Maysles had passed away at 88 years of age. I’ve always said that my all-time favourite interview subjects have been Albert Maysles and Anjelica Huston. Maysles, who I met in L.A back in 2011, was as humble as they come with a bona fide interest in everything and everyone. I spent perhaps ten minutes with him and took several photographs, with each one he asked to see the shot and then, time and time again, insisted I go closer with the zoom (virtually unheard of in Los Angeles). “Go closer, go closer” he told me, “so you can really see the face.”
