i photographed alexander mcqueen (pictured here with janet jackson) two years ago at his store opening in los angeles. he headed up to heaven today, aged 40, and will be dearly missed by the fashion world. hands down, his show was the highlight of paris fashion week every season for me. a big loss for us, a huge gain for heaven. r.i.p lee. :(
undoubtedly two of the brightest stars shining in the crazed-neon vicinity otherwise known as sydney, photographer harold david (big-ups buddy!!) teamed up with creative wunderkind michelle jank (who loves ya MJ?) for a fashion editorial with a difference. lo and behold, the ivory allure of this story will undoubtedly be re-appearing in your head throughout the course of your afternoon folks. and rightly so. after all, when flashbacks look this good, why resist? ps. special shout-out to saskia at grandiflora for having the gutsy bravado to create this funky floral eye mask.
chicago-based artist nick cave gets my vote for funkiest art hound this week. from his appliqued taxidermy giant polar bears to hipper-than-thou sequin soundsuits and a mega-clever aesthetic when it comes to getting the best out of space allocated to his creative vision, his show at the fowler museum in los angeles knocked my socks off over the week-end. definitely one to watch…

based on three short stories by legendary french writer guy de maupassant, the criterion collection version of this film from 1952 comes highly recommended complete with a fascinating intro by director todd haynes, who breaks down everything from cinematography to scene relevance and scoops on the story lines. definitely a DVD for a rainy day.
