in 1949 jean cocteau returned from usa to his native france, where he penned a brilliant body of work known simply as “a letter to the americans.” i’m a huge fan of the following quote…

“do not fall for the deadly vertigo of radio and television. television prevents the mind from ruminating and forces you to ingest insipid, pre-digested food. your strong teeth are for biting into things, not for adoring the fake teeth of movie stars.”
